In November 2012 the British Mountain Guides will be hosting the international meeting of the IFMGA (International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations) in the Highlands of Scotland and in Aviemore. Representatives from over 20 countries from around the world will have the opportunity to experience the hospitality, mountains, and culture of the area as well as using the occasion to exchange views on guiding matters and co-operation.
 
From the first guiding association that was established in Chamonix France in 1821, followed by Switzerland some years later, Mountain Guides have continued to explore the great mountain ranges and landscapes of the world. The IFMGA, formed in 1964, is an international fraternity that has continued this heritage to the present day and the British Mountain Guides Association, members for over 30 years, are proud to be part of the IFMGA and hosting this event for the first time in Scotland.
 
Included in the IFMGA event, the BMG will also be hosting the 2012 International climbing competition of Mountain Guides at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena, Ratho, Edinburgh. This will provide an opportunity for climbers from all parts of the globe to test their skills in this world class Scottish venue and enjoy the culture and sights that the city of Edinburgh is renowned for.

The British Mountain Guides are very pleased to host the 2012 International Mountain Guide Climbing Championships at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena on the 23rd and 24th November 2012. This year the climbing championships will be held in conjunction with the IFMGA General meeting in Aviemore in the Scottish Highlands  and the annual general meeting of the British Mountain Guides at Ratho on Sun 25th November.


This year we are fortunate to have many great prizes for the event donated by the sponsors of BMG. Also this year, to celebrate the Scottish venue for the championships – and two great Scottish inventions – there will be a ‘bonus’ dry tooling competition climb with whisky prizes for all successful ascents. The championships will conclude on the Saturday with the prize giving ceremony, Celtic music, a grand dinner and a party on into the evening at the Ratho centre.
